First, we went to Primetime in Burnsville to see Zed Leppelin. This place was huge! You must be able to fit nearly 1,000 people into this bar. But the turnout was more like 250+ while we were there. A Tribute to Rush opened up. We get people at our shows that request Rush all the time because they say I have the voice for it and I kind of look like Getty Lee. But I am no fan of rush, and watching this Tribute band was my first experience listening to a full 45mins of Rush in one sitting. And I'm still not a fan. Rush just doesn't keep me interested... they always got too much shit going on. But then again I'm not a fan of progressive rock. Just lay the beat down and give me some good old rock and roll!
Zed Leppelin was pretty sweet though. They all dressed the part and Robert Plant only spoke a few words between songs like "...this song was inspired by JRR Tolkien" Then they rocked Ramble On. They were a really good Tribute band, but the sound wasn't the greatest at PrimeTime. The lead vocal mic cord was bad, and it was cutting out. The whole mix sounded muffled no matter where you were at the bar. It is too bad because if the sound was really good the band would have been even sweeter!
So, judging by the $7 dollar cover and the little over 250 people that were there at the time Zed Leppelin was at $1,750 by the time we left. But if you pay the opening band $100, the sound man (who was kinda shitty) $200, they are at $1,450. But we left before they got done. So, I'm guessing they made around 2,000 - 2,500 for the night. Pretty nice.
By the time we got to Bogart's to see Good for Gary they were almost done playing for the night. All we saw of their set was maybe 5 or 6 tunes. They were playing all hip hop. The only song I really remember is "My Name Is" by Eminem. Not my cup of tea this band, they were a good group. They had all the girls dressed in slutty halloween costumes shaking their money maker on the dance floor. But we agreed that if these people were given a really good straight up rock band, that they would dig is a lot more. At least we hope they would. I asked the door guy how many people were there. He said they had an alright night and 350 people came through the door all paying a $6 cover. So... that makes $2,100 for the band. No opening band but they might have payed a sound guy so the band is making something around 1,900 maybe more.
Needless to say these bands are some dough. I'm hoping Soul Tree can be pulling in that amount of people and money soon!
Side note: we recorded our halloween show. Once we get some tracks I'll blog about the recording. Till next time!
